Call For Papers: Special Issue on the Philip Roth Personal Library

Philip Roth Studies will sponsor a special 2024 issue on the Philip Roth Personal Library at the Newark Public Library guest edited by Ira Nadel. This unique research collection and exhibition space contains Roth’s working library with selected memorabilia. Letters, notes, and draft mss. complement such items as his writing desk, baseball cap and awards.

Essays dealing with research and discoveries at the library, plus the significance and value of the overall collection, are invited. Essays are to be 5000-7000 words. A brief prospectus of

approximately 750 words should be submitted by 15 December 2022. Please indicate what library material you might use and include a one or two sentence author’s biography. The final essays should be submitted by September 2023. Send queries and the prospectus to nadel@mail.ubc.ca.
