Roth Reads Moving Tribute for Audible and the Newark Public Library
Audible announced yesterday that it was making available a piece written by Philip Roth and published on 20 April in The New York Times, and one read by the novelist himself. It is the tribute to Roth’s friend and former teacher, Bob Lowenstein, and who served as the model for Murray Ringold in I Married a Communist. The audio version of “In Memory of a Friend, Teacher and Mentor” is available at Audible.com.
Audible will donate $1 for every download of Roth’s eulogy (up to $25,000) to the Newark Public Library, which sustained Newark native Roth for so many years as a young reader and writer.
